Payroll and Pensions Officer
Location: Trust Central Office, Burlington House, Waterloo, Merseyside L22 0PJ
Salary Scale: NJC Scale Point 29-35 (£39,862-£46,142)
Contract: Permanent, Full Time –36 hours per week
Pope Francis CMAT is seeking to appoint a highly skilled, committed, and detail-focused Payroll and Pensions Officer to join our central finance team.
This is a key professional role within the Trust, responsible for overseeing and administering the accurate and timely delivery of payroll and pension services across all Trust schools. The successful candidate will ensure that all staff are paid correctly and on time, that statutory and regulatory obligations are fully met, and that the Trust maintains the highest standards of financial governance, compliance, and accountability.
Working closely with school leaders, HR colleagues, external payroll providers, HMRC, and pension scheme administrators, the postholder will lead on the coordination of complex payroll and pension processes, including Teachers’ Pensions, the Local Government Pension Scheme, and auto-enrolment arrangements. They will play a central role in developing, embedding, and improving Trust-wide systems and procedures, contributing to efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
The Trust is seeking an individual with substantial payroll and pensions’ experience, strong technical knowledge, and exceptional attention to detail. The successful candidate will be organised, resilient under pressure, and capable of meeting demanding deadlines, particularly during peak payroll periods. They will demonstrate excellent communication skills and a professional, service-oriented approach when supporting schools and colleagues.
